Location alone cannot identify who investigated a collision. Check the officer's information card, incident number or paperwork first.

Confirm the investigating agency

If it is unclear, contact the local police department or a CHP office with the date and location to ask which agency investigated. This tool does not search police records or establish that a report exists.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD)

Use LAPD's official page for its online vendor or mail request form. Reports involving an arrest, fatality or juvenile, and reports before February 1, 2016, must be requested by mail.

Published fees: Published mail fee: $19 by check or money order. Confirm online charges in the official vendor portal.
Timing: LAPD says to allow at least 45 days before attempting an online purchase. This is not a guaranteed release date.
Prepare: Incident date and location, DR or incident number if known, involved names, vehicle details, identification and your relationship to the report. Follow the official form's signature and authorization instructions.

Glendale Police Department

Glendale's service directory links to its authorized online report vendor. Select the investigating agency shown on your report information.

Published fees: Check the vendor's current report price before payment. No flat amount is verified here.
Timing: Confirm availability with the vendor or Glendale Police Records. A fixed completion time is not verified here.
Prepare: Have the incident date, location, report number if known, identification and information showing your interest in the report.

Burbank Police Department

Burbank offers an online purchase through the vendor linked from its official page and an in-person Records Bureau option.

Published fees: Published in-person report fee: $20. Online purchases add a convenience fee; confirm the total before paying.
Timing: The department says to allow at least four days after the collision before attempting an online purchase. Release may take longer.
Prepare: Incident date and location, report number if available, involved-party details and identification. Confirm your eligibility before purchase.

Pasadena Police Department

Start with the department's Request Traffic Collision Report link. Its Records Section also handles report-copy requests.

Published fees: The linked records schedule lists police reports at $10. It is a published reference, not a quote for every request; confirm the current charge with Records.
Timing: Ask Records about availability and current service options. No fixed release time is verified here.
Prepare: Incident date and location, report number if known, identification and your connection to the incident.

California Highway Patrol (CHP)

CHP's current request page links to its online Crash Portal and the CHP 190 form for requests by mail or in person at a CHP Area office. Use this route for a CHP investigation.

Published fees: CHP directs paper applicants to confirm the exact fee with the receiving Area office. Check portal charges before payment.
Timing: Availability depends on report processing. The request page does not promise a fixed release date.
Prepare: Crash date and location, driver or owner details, your party-of-interest category and applicant information. Follow the portal or paper form's identity and signature requirements.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD)

LASD's Records and Identification Bureau explains mail requests and appointment pickup. Call (562) 345-4441 to confirm the correct request and pickup route.

Published fees: Use the fee schedule linked from LASD's official FAQ and confirm the charge for the particular report.
Timing: Ask the bureau or investigating station whether the report is available. Pickup requires confirmation; do not assume walk-in service.
Prepare: Follow the official instructions for incident details, identification, signature and authorization. Mailing and pickup arrangements differ.

Camera footage is a separate request

Burbank Public Works has a separate traffic-video request process. Its page lists a $57 video fee and a 2% credit-card administration charge. The city confirms the request before seeking payment and cautions that license plates are generally not legible. Confirm footage availability; purchasing a police report does not request this video.

Burbank's official video request instructions

For another city, identify the camera owner and ask its records or traffic office whether it records, whether relevant footage exists and how to request preservation and access. Private cameras require a separate request to their owner. Availability, retention and access differ; no camera coverage or retention period is assumed here.

Access and separate reporting duties

Collision reports contain personal information. The agency decides whether you qualify to receive a copy under Vehicle Code section 20012. Do not request someone else's report without proper authority.

Obtaining a copy is different from reporting an incident. Review DMV's SR-1 instructions for its separate requirements. If no officer took a report, ask the appropriate agency about reporting options. For an emergency, call 911.
